Coach Development & Education

With the implementation of the Canada Soccer Pathway, built on the principles of Long-Term Player Development (LTPD), Aurora FC provides coaches with structured opportunities to understand and apply modern player development principles in Canada.

The club encourages all coaches to actively engage in the coaching community through certification, coaching clinics, online learning, and professional development opportunities.

Each year, all Grassroots and Competitive coaches in Ontario must complete the minimum certification requirements for their respective age groups. In addition, all coaches are required to complete Respect in Sport certification.

Aurora FC is committed to the ongoing development of coaches, players, and mentors. Significant investment is made into staff education to support the long-term success and growth of the club.

AFC Leadership Program (Coach Mentorship)

The AFC Leadership Program is open to current Aurora FC players (U15+) as well as former players who are interested in transitioning into coaching roles.

The program is designed to develop leadership skills and provide a structured pathway into coaching within the club. Participants (mentees) work alongside senior coaching staff across Grassroots, Skills Development, Competitive, OPDL, and camp environments.

Throughout the season, participants receive mentorship, on-field training, and certification support. The program combines practical coaching experience with formal education aligned to the Canada Soccer Grassroots Pathway, including:

  • Active Start
  • Fundamentals
  • Learn to Train

Participants are also required to complete a minimum of 30 volunteer hours as part of the program. The program runs throughout the year, with scheduling based on team and program needs.

  • Develop leadership and communication skills
